Karswell, the great tabby hunter in action

Birds

Karswell is very keen on catching birds.
He sits on the lawn and the magpies hop closer and closer and peck at his tail. Every so often one pushes it's luck just a little too far.

At least this one was dead when he brought it in - we've had some great times when he carries a bird through the cat door and then drops it on the floor, only for it to 'wake up' and start flapping around the kitchen.

Talk about your Hitchcockian experience, the family run screaming and lock themselves in the cupboard under the stairs, whilst the magpie flaps around the kitchen squawking and raining a stream of feathers and poo onto everything in sight.

At this point Karswell generally goes nuts and climbs up my leg, trying to recapture his prey while I try and drive it towards the door with a broom.

Anyone for bird flu?

Rats

Almost as much fun as the birds is the constant supply of dead and semi-dead rodents which Karswell likes to contribute to the household food supply. If we find them in time, we generally swap them for a nice bowl of catfood or some cat munchies but often, it's too late and just a few body parts are left.

He's looking very pleased with himself here as no doubt this magnificent specimen of rattus norvegicus was a more difficult catch than his usual field mice and voles.

Luckily, all the rats so far have been D.O.A. but it does add a little frisson to the mornings when you find blood on the doormat and no sign of a body.

...did something just move behind the bookcase?

Nice eh?... I caught this y'know
cat hunting

Here's another prize rat as our champion hunter gets into his stride.

Maybe he's a hindu as he seems to be offering it to the elephant. (The elephant-headed god Ganesh is traditionally supposed to ride on a rat.)

magpie on the bed

One for sorrow.

Carefull - it's a live one.

Released by Karswell in the kitchen, this cheery looking magpie has flown up the stairs and is wondering where to go to the loo.

...Who's a pretty boy then?

Shortly after this, we managed to scare it out of an open window. Peace returned untill the next time...

Maa-a-a-gpie!!

Plenty more where that came from - I'm off to look for another one!

  stop the pigeon

Hang on - I can do that too!

Not to be left out, Tonto demonstrates his bird catching skills...don't think they'd starve if we stopped feeding them!

Cat Joke

Mummy mouse and baby mouse are out looking for food, when suddenly, the cat jumps on them .

Mummy mouse yells, "WOOF!" and the cat runs away.

"There!" Says the mum to baby. "Now do you see why it's important to learn another language?"
